Genesis 19

I could’ve explored so many avenues here. Therefore, before I upload my next post and continue with the avenue I did pursue, I want to express one pet peeve I have regarding a certain perspective some individuals take on this particular chapter. The wickedness of Sodom, which led to its ultimate destruction, had nothing to do with homosexuality. The men of Sodom were brutal, vile barbarians who did not in any way express love, kindness, or gentleness to others; they were not homosexuals…not in the least.

Not sure about “not in the least,” but it wasn’t their distinguishing or most deep-seated mark, to be sure. Actually, I just happened to be reading about that mark today: “Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. They were haughty…” (Ezekiel 16:49-50).

I know…I quoted that passage in my last post. “Mercy for Mercy’s Sake!” …and by “not in the least,” I meant they weren’t homosexuals. Their desire to rape the angels within Lot’s home was wicked, yes…but that in no way defines one who is homosexual. Homosexuals don’t rape…not by definition.
